What I wanna know is ... POST YOUR QUESTIONS HERE

What I wanna know is ...

Everything you always wanted to know about ...

... ELT, but never found the opportunity to ask.
kk

At conferences and training events, we often want to ask a specific question to the trainer or ELT writer, but, for a variety of reasons, never get the opportunity. However, English language teaching is quite a small world and there's almost certainly somebody here on SEETA who knows somebody who knows somebody who knows somebody who knows the person you want to ask a question about language teaching.

So, here's what we'll do! Send in your question and the person you want to address it to. Between us, we'll find a way of getting it to the person in question. And get their response, of course .... if they decline to answer, that may be very revealing anyway! At the same time, we'll throw the question open to everybody, so that not only will you get the answer from the person in question, but also, I hope, lots of answers from others at SEETA.
kk

I have a few questions of my own. I want to ask Penny Ur which of her books she likes best herself and why? I want to ask Mario Rinvolucri if there's anything he has written which he now disagrees with.

Over to you ...

Philip Kerr

Post your question and the name of the person it's addressed to here.

Philip will get in touch with this person to deliver your question.

Check for replies.

Post your own responses, if you wish.

Grammar issues

by Mirjana Ljiljak-Vukajlovic.
Dear Philip/Colleagues,
What I find very useful in more advanced textbooks are explanations of finer grammatical points - why certain options are the right or preferable ones. However, when we do tests with S's, there is no explanation why a certain option is the right one. Could you please comment the following test item:
By the time we got to the sale, every book had been sold.
SINGLE
By the time we got to the sale, there ................. book left.
My student wrote: ... hadn't been a single ... , but the test key provided only this answer: was not/wasn't a/one single book left.
My student insisted that with past perfect we emphasize even better that books had been taken away before our arrival. I told him I suppose that "wasn't ... left" highlights better the result of books having been taken away.
What is your comment? Is the single offered answer the only possible one?
